Diljit Dosanjh recalls Komagata Maru incident on ‘The Tonight Show’

Diljit Dosanjh recalls Komagata Maru incident on ‘The Tonight Show’: ‘They didn’t let us in, now 55,000 cheer for us’

After appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in June 2024, popular Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh returned to the American late-night talk show on April 27, 2026. He not only promoted his recent album ‘Aura’ and its North American tour, but also taught Jimmy Fallon a few bhangra moves.

This time, he performed his track “Morni” on the show, dressed in a black turban, dhoti, and kurta adorned with sparkling, diamond-like embellishments. Joined by two dancers and his backing band, including drummer Rahul Hariharan and keyboardist Clinton Charles, the performance was preceded by a lively chat with Fallon, where Dosanjh even offered him a free dance lesson. He taught Bhangra to fallon which was a nice sight to witness. “You can do bhangra on any beat, even on a generator,” he joked.Interestingly, on April 23, 2026, Dosanjh kicked off his multi-city ‘Aura’ tour in North America with a show at BC Place in Vancouver. The concert was sold out, mirroring his 2024 feat, with an attendance of 55,000. He is also set to perform two sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden in New York City on May 24 and 25, 2026. Connecting the Vancouver concert to his Coachella performances, Dosanjh told Fallon it was “very important” for him.

Diljit Dosanjh recalls Komagati Maru incident

While speaking about the love he has been receiving, he also recalled a significant historical moment, the Komagata Maru incident. The ship carried 376 passengers from Punjab, of whom only 24 were allowed entry into Canada. “In 1914, when our people came to Canada for the first time, they didn’t allow us in. That stadium is just two kilometers away from that port. That’s a big thing for us, 55,000 people in the stadium. They didn’t allow us to come, but now we’re here,” Dosanjh said. Go to Source
