Did Ranveer Singh exit Don 3 because he wanted “stronger” language and more violence? A new report claims

It’s no longer under wraps that Ranveer Singh has stepped away from ‘Don 3’, helmed by Farhan Akhtar. While earlier chatter pointed to generic creative differences, a fresh report sheds more light on what may have led to the split.According to the Free Press Journal, Ranveer who is currently riding high on the success of his ‘Dhurandhar’ franchise, was keen on giving Don a more intense edge. He reportedly pushed for the inclusion of “strong language,” believing the character should “change his DNA to match the current violent” tone that audiences seem to favour today.Farhan, however, wasn’t on the same page. The filmmaker stood firm against incorporating “harsh language” into the narrative, maintaining that earlier iterations of Don never depended on such elements. He is said to have pointed out that even versions led by Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan avoided excessive profanity. Insiders suggest he was unwilling to bow to any external pressure, with a source stating, “Farhan very much wanted to make the film he originally set out to make.”Recently, Farhan broke silence on the ‘Don 3’ row amidst the legal battle. He said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, “What I have learnt is to expect the unexpected. Nothing can be taken for granted till you actually have it on film. Honestly, I also feel that from the time I began- from that moment that an Aamir, Akshaye, Preity, Dimple, Saif, Ritesh as my partner- till they come on and said yes ‘let’s make this film’- from that moment on, actually all the way pretty much through till 2022, which is 22-23 years, I have had the most incredible ride. ””It has just been working with the people that I want to work with, whether directing them or acting in films that I want to act in with directors. So it has been amazing. And you realize that at some point, there will be a period that’s going to come along that is going to be a little bit more challenging then. You’ve had it good. So it’s okay, you just take it in your stride,” he added. Ranveer eventually exited the project in 2025, with the disagreement becoming public amid reports of script-related issues and delays. It was also reported that Excel Entertainment sought Rs 40 crore in compensation, citing costs incurred during pre-production, scheduling disruptions, and other associated losses. The production house maintained that much of the groundwork had been completed with Ranveer’s consent, and the actor has reportedly agreed to repay a portion of the amount. Go to Source
