‘Dhurandhar’ real vs reel roles: Netizens guess who plays whom in Ranveer Singh, Akshaye Khanna, R Madhavan starrer film

‘Dhurandhar’ trailer was finally dropped on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, and immediately set social media buzzing. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the trailer grabbed attention with its intense action and gripping visuals, sparking curiosity about which real-life figures inspired the reel characters. Fans and social media users have been actively speculating, piecing together clues from the trailer, even though the makers have not made any official announcements yet.

Ranveer Singh (Wrath of God) as Major Mohit Sharma?

Ranveer Singh’s character in the trailer has no revealed name, but he appears to be an undercover agent or Indian Army officer operating in Pakistan. His look and style have led to speculation that he may be playing Ashok Chakra awardee Major Mohit Sharma. As reported by NDTV, Major Mohit Sharma infiltrated the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist group under the alias ‘Iftikhar Bhat’ and was killed in action after eliminating terrorists during a counter-insurgency operation in Kupwara, Jammu and Kashmir. Social media users are calling Ranveer’s character the “Wrath of God” based on these daring real-life events.

R Madhavan (Charioteer of Karma) as Ajit Doval?

R Madhavan plays Ajay Sanyal, a top officer in India’s Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW). In the trailer, he is portrayed as a balding, experienced intelligence officer with spectacles and a moustache. He is skilled at targeting terror camps in Pakistan.Fans quickly speculated that Sanyal’s character is inspired by Ajit Doval, National Security Advisor and former Intelligence Bureau director. In Aditya Dhar’s earlier film ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’, Paresh Rawal played a similar character. Social media has dubbed Madhavan the “Charioteer of Karma” for his intelligence expertise and fans are pointing several similarities between the character and Ajit Doval.

Arjun Rampal (Angel of Death) as Ilyas Kashmiri?

The trailer opens with Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal torturing an Indian soldier whose body is pierced with fishhooks. The character recalls being inspired by former Pakistan President Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq’s infamous call to “bleed India with a thousand cuts.”This scene reminded viewers of the torture suffered by Major Saurabh Kalia and other Indian soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999. Netizens suggest that Major Iqbal is inspired by Ilyas Kashmiri, a notorious Pakistani terrorist involved in attacks in India, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Ilyas Kashmiri had been active since the 1990s and was linked to the kidnapping of foreign tourists and the killing of journalist Daniel Pearl. Reports stated that he died in a US drone strike in 2011.

Akshaye Khanna (Apex Predator) as Rehman Dakait?

Akshaye Khanna plays Rehman Dakait, a gangster aiming for political power in Pakistan. The trailer shows him as suave, ruthless, and violent, claiming to “kill like a kasai” (a butcher). As per the abover report, Rehman Dakait was born Sardar Abdul Rehman Baloch and rose from street crime to political ambitions. He was reportedly involved in killing his own mother as a teenager. Khanna’s portrayal captures his cunning and fearsome personality.

Sanjay Dutt (The Jinn) as Chaudhry Aslam Khan?

Sanjay Dutt appears as SP Chaudhary Aslam, a gun-toting, smoking police officer. The character is based on Chaudhry Aslam, known for leading operations against gangs in Lyari, Pakistan, including arrests and killings of criminals like Rehman Dakait.Chaudhry Aslam also led the Lyari Task Force and the Criminal Investigation Department’s Investigation Wing. He survived multiple assassination attempts but was killed in a bomb blast in January 2014, reportedly by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan. Dutt’s portrayal is strong, intense, and dramatic.
