‘Dhurandhar 2’ AI poster lands Ranveer Singh in trouble

'Dhurandhar: The Revenge' AI poster lands Ranveer Singh in trouble; Sikh community raises objection

Ahead of the ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ release in theaters, it is facing the heat from the Sikh community. As per reports, a legal notice has been issued to the makers of the movie over a poster involving Ranveer Singh’s character. In the image the actor can be seen holding a cigarette while wearing a turban, which has sparked controversy.

‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ faces flak from the Sikh community

As per the Firstpost report, a legal notice has been sent to the makers of ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’, leading man Ranveer Singh, and other relevant authorities. This comes after a poster of a song titled ‘Pralay’ allegedly showed Singh’s character smoking. Complainants have questioned the portrayal of religious insensitivity and misrepresentation of Sikh beliefs. For those unaware, consumption of tobacco is strictly prohibited for Sikhs. And hence, the depiction of the same in the movie has become contentious. As per the report, the legal notice was sent by a Sikh community member to the makers, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The complainants demanded removal of scenes showcasing the character smoking and edits to the already released promotional material depicting the same. A demand for an apology from the makers and immediate action before the release has been made as well.

Backlash on X over AI/fan-made poster

Earlier, Paramjit Singh Sarna, the president of Shiromani Akali Dal, Delhi State, shared a post on his X that read, “The poster of the Pralay song from the film Dhurandhar 2 depicts a turbaned Sikh character holding a cigarette. This portrayal is deeply offensive and a serious violation of Sikh religious principles. In Sikh tradition, tobacco is strictly prohibited and regarded as a Bajjar Kurehit, one of the gravest breaches of the Sikh code of conduct.”The post further read, “Displaying a Sikh wearing a Dastaar while holding a cigarette is therefore a blatant misrepresentation of Sikh identity and hurts the sentiments of Sikhs worldwide.”Explaining further, he added, “The Sikh turban is a sacred article of faith. Its use in this context is completely irrelevant to the narrative of the film and appears to trivialise and misrepresent Sikh beliefs before a global audience. Such imagery directly attacks Sikh sentiments and projects a distorted understanding of the Sikh faith. We urge the concerned authorities to take immediate cognizance of this matter, investigate the portrayal, and direct the makers to remove or correct this offensive poster.”

The Truth

Soon after the post slamming the makers of ‘Dhurandhar 2,’ netizens came in support of the film, stating that the poster is a fan-made one. Netizens also informed that there was no song titled ‘Pralay’ in ‘Dhurandhar’ or ‘Dhurandhar 2’. A person wrote, “There is no such song called Pralay in Dhurandhar2 and the pic you have posted here is not an official one it is a fanmade poster.” Another individual added, “Respected sir please look into the poster,it is a fanmade or ai generated poster. There is no song named pralay in Dhurandhar 2. Music rights of film is with t series and on that poster sa re ga ma music is mentioned. Not official poster.Reserch before posting.”
