Demi Lovato opens up about going public about rehab

Demi Lovato opens up about going public about rehab; says, 'I need to be that role model'

Demi Lovato, the ‘Heart Attack’ singer, expressed her decision to be public about her rehab. The 33-year-old courageously explained that her steps were due to the public outburst when she was 18, and the need to be a role model for the young ones, as she lacked one herself during her childhood.

Demi Lovato’s decision to be public

Lovato wanted someone to speak about the eating disorder when she was 13, and she didn’t have anyone. While most of the industry kept quiet about its challenges, the singer took the responsibility to be that for someone else. “I had a decision that had to be made when I had gone to treatment for the first time. I had this very public outburst when I was 18 and which I talk about in some of my documentaries, but God, there’s so many,” she said in the latest episode of ‘Las Culturistas.’ While Lovato’s manager at the time asked her whether she wanted to go public about the situation or sweep it under the rug, she decided to be the catalyst that young people could relate to. “Especially at the time when the beauty standards were, you know, very dangerous. And so I wanted to be that for other people,” the ‘Confident’ singer said, adding that it set the tone for the rest of her life, which was helping people.

Demi Lovato’s bipolar disorder

Due to emotional and physical issues, Demi Lovato was diagnosed with Bipolar disorder and received inpatient treatment in 2010, according to People. During her three-month stay at a treatment centre, the singer underwent therapy for anorexia, bulimia, and cutting, as she battled depression from a young age and had trouble controlling her emotions as well as actions. Talking about an instance, she recalled that she wrote seven songs in a night and was up until 5:30 in the morning.
