With the release of Alia Bhatt’s much-awaited spy film, ‘Alpha’, fans and netizens alike have been debating the plot and what they have seen so far. While many have celebrated the completely new look of Bhatt, there have been many others who have criticised many of the plot holes that they have noticed in the trailer.
About the ‘Alpha’ trailer
The trailer starts off with Bhatt’s character and her father, who is played by Bobby Deol, celebrating her 18th birthday at a hotel. He hands her a key card and says that they will be celebrating her birthday with her first mission, tasking her with killing a man in one of the hotel rooms.The remainder of the trailer shows fighting sequences of the actress, along with glimpses of her childhood as her father trained her to be an elite soldier and spy. There is another pivotal scene where he tattoos the sign for ‘alpha’ on her arm while explaining what it means.The trailer comes to an end with Bobby Deol walking into the hotel room as his daughter looks at him and then shoots a man in the neck.
Netizens dissect the ‘Alpha’ trailer
As soon as the teaser was shared online, fans and netizens alike dissected the teaser and talked about the theories that they had for the film’s plot. Many people pointed out that a lot of the themes in the trailer seem to be extremely predictable, with one of the common theories being that Bobby Deol’s character will turn out to be the villain in the end. One content creator dissected the entire plot of the film based on the plot and posted the same along with the caption, “POV: You’ve seen 6 YRF spy films, and you can write the 7th with your eyes closed.” In the video, he ended up predicting most of the plot for ‘Alpha’, citing that Deol will be the real villain, Bhatt’s character will find out the truth, and will set out on a mission to kill him for what he did to her.Not only that, but he even ended up commenting about how Pathan and Tiger, who are simultaneously played by Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in the spy universe, are commonly known by the end of the film as ‘saving the day.’Many people also commented about a major plot hole in the trailer and one of its posters. Netizens Online pointed out that while one of the main parts of the trailer revolves around Alia Bhatt’s character getting an alpha tattoo, the very thing seems to be missing from many of the scenes. One person’s comment regarding this read, “Completely Erased Plot Elements: The trailer relies heavily on the revelation that Alia’s character is branded with an ‘Alpha’ tattoo on her arm as part of a secret super-soldier program. Inexplicably, the poster completely airbrushes this vital, plot-centric mark off her skin.” Another netizen shared screenshots of inconsistent scenes where the tattoo is present and not present in some of the scenes and cited, “#peak detailing by Dhar!! The tattoo missing in some shots while changing positions in some, soft ‘jewellery commercial’ lighting, and sloppy editing. Many are already calling it a massive box office disaster.”Another social media user posted screenshots from the trailer and shared, “#Alpha Teaser: Not Fully Convincing Yet, Haryanvi accent feels uneven, The ‘b****** laugh’ moment doesn’t land, ‘Hhhhh’ sound effect feels odd, Some action scenes look off, No physical transformation from Alia Bhatt for such demanding role, Small details, big impact.”

Plagiarism concerns regarding ‘Alpha’
Beyond decoding the plot, many netizens also pointed out that the poster, as well as some of the pivotal scenes in the trailer, have been copied from other popular films. As the official poster for the film was released, social media users could not help but draw comparisons between ‘Alpha’ and ‘Dune’.Many people tagged the production house and actors and shared side-by-side photos of ‘Dune’ posters and ‘Alpha’ posters, with one person even commenting, “I bet they used ChatGPT. ‘Hey ChatGPT, replace the actors from this poster of Dune with the images of actors I have uploaded.” Many people also commented that at first, they felt that it was a poster for the ‘Dune’ franchise.
Netizens call out plagiarism issues within the ‘Alpha’ poster and trailer
Beyond that, the first scene where Deol and Bhatt’s characters celebrate the latter’s birthday has also been accused of plagiarism. People posted video clips of ‘Alpha’ and a 1990 Hollywood film, ‘La Femme Nikita’, to point out the similarities in the scene.One person’s comment on the matter read, “All that pr stunts gone with one clip”, while another shared, “What else does Bollywood know? Only two or three films out of a count have original stories, the rest are all copies!”
