December Rush: Films make a dash for the final month of the year

December 2025 promises a cinematic showdown. Several films are slated for release. Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandar’ starts the month. Aamir Khan’s ‘Mere Raho’ follows. James Cameron’s ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’ arrives mid-month. Christmas sees a triple release with ‘Anaconda,’ ‘Alpha,’ and ‘Dacait.’ Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Tu Meri Main Tera’ concludes the year. Diverse genres will be available for moviegoers.

There was a period when Diwali was the most sought after period to release films as people are in festive mood but with time dynamics changed and December took that spot. .With the holiday season, long weekends and celebratory moods create the perfect environment for big ticket films. This December is turning to be a battlefield with more than 6 films releasing in 4 weeks of time. From Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandar on December 5 to Aamir Khan-backed Mere Raho on December 12, followed by James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash on December 19, and then the triple bonanza of Anaconda Alpha and Dacait on December 25, before ending with Kartik Aaryan’s Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri on December 31 — it’s going to be a month of back-to-back fireworks.December 5: Dhurandar December kicks off with Ranveer Singh and Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandar which also features names like R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and Arjun Rampal. The makers released a preview of the film on Ranveer’s birthday and it set the stage for a mass action film filled with patriotism for the big screen. December 12: Aamir Khan ‘s Mere Raho with son Junaid Khan and Sai PallaviIf action is not your scene, you just need to wait for a week and Aamir Khan’s Mere Raho with son Junaid and south superstar Sai Pallavi will be hitting the big screen. This romantic film has been extensively shot in Japan and is a remake of Thai film One Day. The film marks Sai debut in Bollywood, she would be next seen in Ramayan where she plays Goddess Sita. The film is also important for Junaid as he’s yet to have a hit to his name despite making debut with Maharaj and following it up with Loveyapa. December 19: James Cameron returns with Avatar: Fire and Ash James Cameron known for Titanic is all set to bring the latest instalment of his Avatar series, Avatar: Fire and Ash on 19th December in India. With the success of the past two films, this is expected to do the same if not more box office collection. The second installment had collected over Rs 390 crore at the box office, it could very well write box office history once again. The date is strategic as it comes right before Christmas and thereby get maximum footfalls. December 25: A triple clash with, Anaconda, Alpha and DacaitChristmas Day is traditionally Bollywood’s favorite release date — from Dangal to PK to Tiger Zinda Hai, the holiday has been a launchpad for blockbusters. This year, however, the date is overcrowded with three high-profile films arriving simultaneously. On one side is Hollywood giant Anaconda led by Jack Black and Paul Rudd, the re-imagined film is expected to reboot the franchise once again. One the other side is Alpha headlined by Alia Bhatt, Sharvai and Bobby Deol, directed by Shiv Rawail.A lot is riding on the film as the debacle of War 2 with Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR has raised questions about the Spy Universe’s longevity. And on this front is Dacait with Adivi Sesh, Mrunal Thakur and Mrunal Thakur. The film as its core in a love story about an angry convict who is seeking revenge from his former girlfriend who betrayed him. On this date one was also expecting the release of Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela’s love story directed by Anurag Basu. The film was earlier supposed to release on Diwali but due to shooting not being complete it was shifted but now its release is expected to happen only in 2026. Instead Karik is bringing his another love story Tu Meri Main Tera, Main Tera Tu Meri with Ananya Panday on December 31st. For this one he teams up with his Satyaprem Ki Katha director Sameer Vidwans and it also marks his first film with Karan Johar after scrapping of Dostana 2. What makes December 2025 unique is not just the number of films but the diversity of genres: a gritty action drama (Dhurandar), a romantic tale (Mere Raho), a global sci-fi epic (Avatar: Fire and Ash and Ananconda ), a slick female-led actioner (Alpha), a raw romantic saga (Dacait), and a frothy rom-com (Tu Meri Main Tera…).Each of these films bring in their own identity.
