De De Pyaar De 2 falls short of original’s Day 1 collection

‘De De Pyaar De 2’ fails to beat De De Pyaar De’s opening day haul

De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to the 2019 hit, sees Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh navigate family approvals for their union. While the film introduces new faces like R Madhavan, it opened to a modest Rs 8.50 crore, falling short of its predecessor’s debut. Critics noted Devgn’s engaging performance but found the central romance lacked emotional depth.

Back in 2019 when Ajay Devgn was paired with Rakul Preet Singh for Luv Ranjan and Akiv Ali’s De De Pyaar De- not many were aware that it was going to be a love story between two people who belong to different age brackets. But the pairing, the storyline, the songs and the comedy and the presence of Tabu connected with the audience and the film went on to mint over Rs 100 crore at the box office. And with every successful film comes a sequel, 2025 saw the sequel of the film as De De Pyaar De 2, this time directed by Anshul Sharma. The second part picks up exactly from where the part 1 left off, after convincing Ajay’s family it was now time to convince Rakul’s family to say yes for their holy union. R Madhavan, Gautami Kapoor, Meezaan Jaferi have been added to the mix for the second part with Jaaved Jaaferi reprising his role from the first part. Box Office CollectionThe sequel took with mixed response from the critics and its lack of promotion also led the film to take a very modest start of just Rs 8.50 crore. It failed to go past the opening day haul of its first part which had collected Rs 9.11 crore, in fact the buzz for the film in 2019 was so strong that the makers are organized special paid premiere for the film from which it had earned Rs 1.3 crore, taking the total collection of the film at the end of Day 1 to Rs 10.41 crore. Movie Review The Times of India gave the movie 3/5 stars. The review states, “Ajay Devgn delivers a self-aware and effortlessly cool performance. He embraces the jokes about his age, turning them into a source of humour and humility. Even when called buddha or uncle repeatedly, Devgn wears it like a badge of honour, reminding the audience why he still commands screen presence. Rakul Preet Singh brings energy and confidence, complementing Devgn’s understated charm. However, their spark is dimmer this time, perhaps because the writing doesn’t give their relationship enough emotional depth.”
