Chinmayi on how dubbing for Trisha in ‘Karuppu’ triggered ‘Leo’ memories

‘ I was genuinely afraid’: Chinmayi Sripada on how dubbing for Trisha in Suriya's 'Karuppu' triggered Vijay's 'Leo' memories

As the Suriya and Trisha Krishnan starrer ‘Karuppu’ continues its thunderous, blockbuster run at the global box office, singer and dubbing artist Chinmayi Sripada has shared a deeply vulnerable note regarding her involvement in the project. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Chinmayi confessed that she was “genuinely afraid” of revealing she had dubbed for Trisha, admitting the studio sessions became a massive emotional trigger that brought back painful memories of the severe backlash she faced during Vijay’s ‘Leo’.

Chinmayi Sripada says she was ‘genuinely afraid’

After audiences appreciated her dubbing work, Chinmayi took to X to explain her emotional state. “Strange I am readying myself saying this I was genuinely afraid this time, of sharing that I dubbed in Karuppu (sic),” she wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The singer said she had been carrying the anxiety for some time.

Chinmayi expresses concern for RJ Balaji and his family

Chinmayi said one of her biggest worries was filmmaker RJ Balaji. She feared that her association with the project might bring unwanted criticism to him and his family. Her past experience during ‘Leo’ made Chinmayi especially cautious. She described RJ Balaji as someone she deeply respects.“I have known R J Balaji a long time – he and his wife, are such lovely people and RJB himself, is someone whose entire life is such a story of grit, determination and a man working so, very hard to make his dreams come true. Maybe because I knew him and his family so well, that I was scared for him of what pushbacks he will get based on the experience last time with Leo. I remember crying buckets dubbing a couple of scenes in the film – it was a massive trigger, almost like I saw everything play out from the past, on the big screen. @RJ_Balaji I am grateful for the opportunity. Thank you for letting me dub for Trisha. And I hope Karuppu saami will help me work in my home ground, without fear and work without having to be scared of what will happen next. May God help Unban me and the others who have been banned from working, for years. #KaruppuBlockbuster”
