BTS star Jungkook’s stalker faces deportation from South Korea

BTS star Jungkook's stalker faces deportation from South Korea; woman handed a suspended prison sentence

A Brazilian woman, accused of repeatedly stalking BTS member Jungkook, has been handed a suspended prison sentence by a South Korean court and could now face deportation from the country. The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was sentenced by a district court in Seoul to one year in prison, suspended for two years, after repeatedly visiting the K-pop star’s residence despite multiple warnings from authorities. According to court proceedings, the woman began visiting Jungkook’s residence since December last year, claiming her actions were motivated by ‘love for the singer’.

Stalker rings Jungkook’s doorbell 133 times

As per a BBC report, prosecutors said she repeatedly visited Jungkook’s home in Seoul, and attempted to leave letters and photographs at the property, while ignoring police orders. The report also alleges that one of the incidents saw her ringing the singer’s doorbell 133 times. The court said that the woman demonstrated an “extreme level of obsession.”

Stalker leaves letters at Junkook’s residence

Authorities said the woman first visited Jungkook’s residence on December 7, where she loitered outside the property, threw items over the wall and pushed letters through gaps in the door. Despite receiving warnings, she returned days later and repeatedly rang the doorbell. On December 13, she was arrested after allegedly following a food delivery worker through a side entrance in an attempt to enter the property. She was released the following day with a warning not to approach the residence again.

Stalker ignores restraining order

However, prosecutors said she ignored the warnings and continued visiting the area. As per the report, this prompted the police to issue an emergency restraining order, barring her from coming within 100 metres of Jungkook’s home.Even then, she allegedly continued her visits to the property, approximately 22 times in total. While delivering the verdict, the judge noted that the risk of the defendant reoffending was considered “not significant,” leading to the suspended prison sentence. In addition to the sentence, the woman is expected to be deported from South Korea unless she successfully appeals the ruling. The verdict comes a year after another shocking incident involving a stalker made waves online. In June last year, a Chinese woman in her 30s was arrested in Seoul after she allegedly attempted to break into Jungkook’s home just hours after he completed his mandatory military service.
