Actress Brenda Fricker, best known for her role in ‘Home Alone 2’ alongside Macaulay Culkin, has passed away. Some of her other roles over the years also included ‘Seekers’, ‘So I Married An Axe Murderer’, ‘Casualty’, and ‘My Left Foot.’

Brenda Fricker passes away at 81

Brenda Fricker passed away at the age of 81 in her home in her home all the way in Dublin. She left for her heavenly abode on July 16, as confirmed by her longtime agency, Phil Belfield. BBC reported that Belfield shared that “We will never see her like again and the world is lesser for the lack of her. I was honoured to know, love and work with her, and she will always have a place in my heart and in the heart of so many film and TV fans the world over.”Soon after the news of her passing broke, tributes and well wishes began pouring in. Her co-star from ‘Casualty’, Derek Thompson, issued a statement and said, “Truly the best I have ever worked with, and I’ve worked with a lot of actors”, while Cathy Shipton from the same show shared, “She lived her life courageously, warts and all. I loved her for her wit, her intelligence and her brilliant sense of humour. Life happened when you were around Brenda. We shared a love of dogs – collie, and my girl Juno is named after her favourite collie. I love her and miss her and am so glad l knew her.” Tánaiste Simon Harris also paid his respects and called her a “national treasure.”At the time of writing, her agent did not share any information about how she passed away.

Brenda Fricker was a reckoning force in the industry, and had more than 100 acting credits under her belt. Although she had no background in acting, she fell upon the opportunity to star in a film for her acting debut in 1969. She slowly honed her skills and became well known for her presence on the big screen as well as the small screen.Brenda Fricker was born on February 17, 1945, and started her professional career in her late teens. However, she did not start with acting, instead, she was an assistant for a big art director at The Irish Times. In the 60s, she, by chance, ended up getting an acting job as an uncredited actor in ‘Of Human Bondage’.She was a trendsetter in her time, starring in one of the first Irish soap operas, ‘Tolka Row’. Later on, one of her most popular TV appearances that became memorable for the audience was in ‘Coronation Street’, one of the longest-running English TV shows. Some of her other work also included ‘Licking Hitler’ and Play For Today’ in the 70s. However, it was after her casting in ‘Casualty’ as a nurse that she got public recognition.Another historical moment in Fricker’s life came soon after she became extremely popular and loved for her work in ‘My Left Foot.’ The actress even scored an Academy Award for her role in the film. However, the achievement that made this most special and memorable was the fact that Fricker was the first-ever Irish actress to land an Oscar! Another one of her memorable roles came around two years after this, when she landed a brief role in ‘Home Alone 2’, as the pigeon lady that Kevin meets and befriends in a New York City park late at night.Some of her other work over the years also included ‘So I Married An Axe Murderer’, ‘Brides of Christ’, ‘The Field’, ‘Seekers’, ‘Angels in the Outfield’, ‘Durango’, ‘A Time to Kill’, ‘Cloudburst’, and many others.
