Trigger warning: This article details sensitive content, reader discretion is advised.Actor Bhumi Pednekar, known for films like ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, ‘Badhaai Do’ and ‘Bhakshak’, has once again spoken up on issues concerning women’s safety and social behaviour. The actress recently used her Instagram Stories to react to a disturbing viral video showing a group of men making obscene gestures toward a wall painting of a woman near a swimming pool. The clip, originally shared by Tube Indian, quickly spread across social media and sparked outrage among users. Many criticised the behaviour shown in the video and called it reflective of a deeper societal problem. Expressing her anger over the incident, Bhumi reshared the video and strongly condemned the men’s actions. The actress did not hold back while addressing what she described as a dangerous mindset among the youth. Sharing the clip on Instagram Stories, she wrote, “This is the mentality of our youth. These are the same people who are going to sexually assault children and women. We are in a pandemic. Just words and showing shame isn’t enough. Stricter laws, stricter laws, stricter laws.”Her statement resonated with many online users, with several agreeing that stronger action and awareness are urgently needed to tackle crimes against women.

Bhumi Pednekar on rising cases of alleged dowry harassment

Bhumi’s reaction comes at a time when the country has been shaken by multiple reports involving alleged dowry harassment and abuse against married women. Recent incidents involving young women such as Twisha Sharma from Bhopal and Deepika Nagar from Noida have triggered nationwide concern.According to reports, both women died under tragic circumstances, and their families have accused the in-laws of harassment related to dowry demands. The incidents reignited conversations around women’s safety within marriage and the lack of support many face after leaving their parental homes.

Kangana Ranaut urges women to become financially independent

Actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, recognised for movies like ‘Queen’, ‘Fashion’ and ‘Tanu Weds Manu’, also reacted to the recent cases through a detailed Instagram note.Calling out societal attitudes toward married daughters, Kangana wrote, “So many tragic news stories about married young women come up every day. Many of these educated young women even beg their parents to help them out of suffocating situations before tragedies strike them, but Indian society is notorious for abandoning daughters once they are married.”She further encouraged women to focus on self-reliance before entering marriage. “Your career is more important than anyone else in your life. Think about marriage only after you are independent. You have to be your own hero; no one is coming to save you. What you do and who you are is more important than who you marry. Build a life that you want,” Kangana added.
