Bahubali: The Epic fails to surpass even Tumbbad’s collection on Saturday

Prabhas’s ‘Bahubali: The Epic’ fails to surpass the Hindi collections of Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad on Saturday

The re-release of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali series, ‘Baahubali- The Epic’, is underperforming in Hindi, collecting a mere Rs 3 crore in its opening weekend. This contrasts sharply with the original films’ massive success. While the Telugu version saw a dip, the film is performing exceptionally well in North America, crossing USD 600,000 in just two days.

Over the past 10 years, SS Rajamouli, Prabhas and Rana Daggubati’s Baahubali series has made multiple box office records. Even with its re-release as Bahubali- The Epic , the film is charting up the record books. But it seems the Hindi version isn’t getting as much love and attention as the two films received independently. To share a context, Baahubali 2- The Conclusion was the first film to cross Rs 500 crore mark in Hindi and was extremely helpful in making the film cross Rs 1000 crore mark at the box office. But with Bahubali- The Epic, the response has been very tepid. As per Sacnilk, the film on its day 1 collected only Rs 1.35 crore in Hindi and on day the film showed a minor spike to collect Rs 1.65 crore as per early estimates. Taking the total Hindi collection to just Rs 3 crore. The day 2 collection of the film even failed to surpass the re-released day 2 numbers of Sohum Shah’s Tumbbad which had collected Rs 2.4 crore on its day 2 , while Harshvardhan Rane’s Sanam Teri Kasam had minted Rs 5.25 crore on day 2. Though the film showed a minor spike in Hindi collection, its Telugu collection witnessed a drop of almost 40 %, it had collected Rs 7.9 crore on day 1 and day 2 collection was Rs 4.75 crore as per early estimates. But going by the trends the film is expected to witness a significant jump and the total collection of the film is expected to cross Rs 25 crore mark by the weekend. Bahubali- The Epic which also stars Anushka Shetty and Tamannah Bhatia along with Ramya Krishnan and Sathyaraj has witnessed a dream run in North America. In just 2 days the film has crossed the USD 600,000 mark and has set new benchmarks for re-released films in the circuit.
