Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ gets UA certificate from CBFC; Runtime, cuts and modifications revealed

Emraan Hashmi is all geared up for the release of his upcoming project ‘Awarapan 2’. Now, the much-awaited film has been passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with a U/A 16+ certificate. The makers were also asked to carry out several cuts and modifications to the film to get the certification.

CBFC asks ‘Awarapan 2’ makers to add disclaimers and change ticker

According to the Bollywood Hungama report, the Examining Committee of the CBFC asked the makers to add disclaimers for the depiction of drug use and child trafficking in the film, along with a similar ticker during a smoking scene. As per rules in effect since 2021, the film’s title was also asked to be mentioned in Hindi. An anti-drug static ticker was ordered to be placed in the bottom right corner during scenes showing drug consumption, while certain “obscene” words had to be replaced in both the audio and subtitles.

Violent and drug-related scenes trimmed in ‘Awarapan 2’

In the second half of the film, a violent scene was asked to be reduced by 50 per cent, while extreme violence was ordered to be deleted from three separate scenes. A scene showing drug snorting at the midpoint of the film was also removed. The end credits were adjusted to match the film’s music as well.

Final runtime of Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ after CBFC cuts

‘Awarapan 2’ was granted its censor certificate on August 5, with a certified length of 140.20 minutes. In total, the CBFC ordered 4 minutes of deletions and 20 seconds of replacements, bringing the film’s final approved runtime to 2 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds.

Box office clash

Interestingly, ‘Awarapan 2’ stands out as the only Hindi film this month to avoid an ‘A’ certificate. It clashes at the box office with ‘Batwara 1947’, which has received an ‘A’ rating. Two more big releases are expected soon – ‘Toxic’ on August 26 and ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ on September 4 – both of which are also likely to be certified ‘A’.’Awarapan 2′, starring Emraan Hashmi, Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi, hits cinemas on August 14.
