As the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) gears up for its next big chapter, fans got a first look at Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. The reveal was not made with an official post, but rather a promotional image, coming more than a year ahead of the film’s global release in December 2026.The newly unveiled concept art depicts Downey Jr in a strikingly medieval Doom armour set, much like the teaser image that saw him seated on the throne. This new image give a closer look at his green knight-like ensemble, complete with a hooded cape, leather belt, and chain vest. The design hits at a comic-book accutare costume for the new and powerful villain.
Doctor Doom light show
A special ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ light show in New York took the frenzy around the film to new heights. The light show teased Thanos’ death at the hands of Doom. In the display, Doctor Doom was shown holding a giant skeleton which many believe was a nod to the 2015 Secret Wars comics, where God Emperor Doom murders Thanos by ripping out his spine.
Doctor Doom vs Thanos
The MCU has already seen Tony Stark’s Iron Man face off with Thanos in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ (2018) and again in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ (2019). In the film, Stark sacrifices himself by wielding the Infinity Gauntlet to snap Thanos and his army out of existence. Now, with RDJ returning as the villain, Victor Von Doom, it will be interesting to see how this rematch between the two characters will play out, considering that they both dead in the current MCU timeline. Josh Brolin, who played the Mad Titan, has not yet been confirmed for the project, though the actor has previously expressed interest in reprising the role if the Russo Brothers call him back.’Avengers: Doomsday’ is currently slated for an 18 December 2026 release.
