‘Arjun Kapoor is courageous and bright’

'Arjun Kapoor is courageous and bright,' says 'Animal' actor and coach Saurabh Sachdeva, amidst all the meme frenzy around the 'Ishaqzaade' actor on the internet

Saurabh Sachdeva, who is currently winning praise for his performance in ‘Dhadak 2’ and was earlier seen in films like ‘Animal’ recently opened up about his former student Arjun Kapoor. Saurabh has been an acting coach for many actors during their initial days. Having trained Arjun during his time as an instructor at Barry John Acting Studio, Saurabh reflected on the actor’s journey, commending his persistence, courage, and willingness to experiment despite facing constant trolling and criticism. In an interview with SCREEN, Saurabh recalled Arjun’s early days as a student. “He’s very bright. When I was at Barry John teaching, he was there. He was very bright. He’s watched all the films in the world. He knows cinema very well. I feel a lot of the work he’s done is very good work too. But we have to give him a chance. We really have to let him be. And the best part about him is that he’s trying to do something new every time. He’s choosing new scripts, taking on those challenges, and still having the courage to say, ‘Okay, I’m still trying to do something new. I will not keep repeating what has already been a success. I’ll do something different.’ And I like that,” he said. The actor-teacher also spoke about areas where Arjun could continue to grow. “Maybe he needs more work on, I don’t know…more than craft, he needs to work on being himself fully and own it. But I feel he’s very courageous. Very courageous. Because when he talks about his personal life to me, I can feel that he opens up so much, and it’s so beautiful. I told him, ‘Arjun be this, you’ll have great success.’ I’m actually very fond of him,” Saurabh shared.Addressing the harsh judgments that often come Arjun’s way, Saurabh emphasised that his struggles make his journey all the more inspiring. “People will say whatever they want to say. That’s their choice. That’s how it is in this field. People will always judge us, pull us down, or say, ‘Wow, he’s so good.’ But I feel emotionally attached to his journey, his career. Not because I meet him daily or because he’s close to me, but because of his journey, because of the way he’s struggling every time, working hard, and trying to bring something new,” he said.
