Anupam Kher says only mediocre actors are invited to roundtables

'Acting wise main inka baap hu,' says Anupam Kher as he reveals he is never called for any roundtable inteviews, only mediocre actors are invited

Anupam Kher has done more than 500 movies in the industry and is one of the best actors that we’ve seen. The actor who has also turned director is always been known for his candidness, and in a recent conversation, he offered a blunt take on the year-end ‘roundtable interviews’ that feature prominent actors. Despite spending more than four decades in films, Kher revealed that he has never been invited to these discussions. During his appearance on Unfiltered with Samdish, the veteran actor reflected on his journey and addressed whether he ever feels undervalued in the industry. According to him, it all comes down to whose approval one is seeking. As he put it, “It depends on the kind of people who decide if I am good enough. There is a section of people who try to decide who they want to make into a big name and who they don’t. That always happens, and it is because of the mediocrity of people.”

Anupam Kher Opens Up On Supporting Brother Raju Kher Financially And Family Bonds

Kher further claimed that a select group within the industry and media attempts to influence the trajectory of an actor’s career. Pointing to his own experience, he said, “There is a section of people in the media who decide things like, ‘We don’t want to invite Anupam Kher to an actor’s roundtable’. They have never called me, and acting-wise, main inn sabka baap hoon (I am a much better actor than these people). I run an actual acting school. Recently, I even called up a senior editor and told her, ‘Why do you get so happy talking to mediocre actors?’”He admitted that it bothers him to know some people don’t wish to see him rise, but said he has learned to accept this reality. The actor shared that true confidence comes from detaching oneself from the need for universal approval. “Everyone wants to be liked, and I still feel that way. But the day you understand that you don’t need to be liked by everyone is the day you become the king. I even wrote a play about all my failures and showed it to the world. At that point, you stop caring about what people think,” he concluded.
