Anu Mallik refuses to pick sides in Chunari Chunari debate

'Salman Khan took it to another level, Varun Dhawan danced his heart out': Anu Mallik refuses to pick sides in 'Chunari Chunari' debate

Veteran composer Anu Mallik urged calm amid the backlash over Varun Dhawan’s remake of “Chunari Chunari,” praising both Varun and Salman for bringing the song to life. He emphasized positivity and gratitude for artists who’ve elevated his music. Earlier, singer Abhijeet criticized the remake and Varun’s rendition.

Veteran composer Anu Mallik, the creative mind behind the iconic ‘Chunar Chunar’ from ‘Biwi No. 1’, has now weighed in on the heated debate that has been brewing between fans of Salman Khan and Varun Dhawan ever since the recreated version of the song dropped for the upcoming film ‘Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai’. For those who may have missed it, Varun found himself at the receiving end of a massive social media backlash shortly after the remix of ‘Chunari Chunari’ was released. Netizens were quick to slam the actor for what they felt was an unworthy reimagining of such a beloved classic, with many drawing unflattering comparisons between his performance and Salman Khan’s unforgettable turn in the original.

Anu Mallik on ‘Chunari Chunari’ controversy

When the topic came up during a conversation with IANS, Anu was characteristically gracious in his response, staying true to his lifelong philosophy of focusing on the good in people and situations. Rather than taking sides or fuelling the debate, the veteran composer chose to rise above the noise entirely. “I think we should not get into it. Frankly, I never get into that. I don’t even think about such things. I have been a positive person all my life, and I like to see good in people. I have not been raised to see the bad in people,” he said.

The composer also took a moment to express his deep gratitude for the incredible artists who have brought his compositions to life over the years, acknowledging that their talent and star power have elevated his music to heights he could not have achieved alone. “As a composer, I am Anu Mallik also because I have had great actors in my life. I have been blessed to have Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, Chintu ji, Hema Ji, and others. I do a song with the mindset that if I am making the song with 100% dedication, the actor will take it to 1000%, and that is the only way I have seen life,” he stated. Wrapping up his thoughts, Anu Mallik made it clear that ‘Chunari Chunari’ is a song that will forever hold a special place in the hearts of music lovers, regardless of which version they prefer. Rather than picking sides, the composer chose to celebrate both outings of the track with equal warmth and generosity. “Salman took the song to a different level, and Varun has also danced his heart out,” he said, refusing to let the online debate cloud his appreciation for either performer. He signed off on a characteristically uplifting note, adding, “I don’t want to see any negativity, I am only looking at the positives.”

Abhijeet Bhattacharya slams ‘Chunari Chunari’ remake

This is not the first time the remake has stirred up controversy. Singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the voice behind the original ‘Chunari Chunari’, had earlier come out strongly against the recreated version, taking a sharp dig at Varun Dhawan and asserting that the actor could not step into Salman Khan’s shoes simply by recreating his songs.
