Anil Kapoor opens up on being insecure as an actor

Anil Kapoor opens up on his insecurity as an actor and that's what keeps him going: 'I want to be seen'

Veteran star Anil Kapoor has been in the business of more than 40 years and continues to stay relevant – not just by looking so fit and young but also the kind of movies he’s doing still. In a recent interview, he opened up on what keeps him going and also confessed being insecure as an actor. The actor will be seen next in ‘Subedaar’ after being a part of some iconic movies like ‘Mr India, ‘Pukar’, ‘Nayak’, and in recent times, films like ‘Animal’ and ‘Fighter’. He said during a chat with Expresso by Screen, “I always need an emotional hook to delve into work. I wanted to prove to my father that I can be a hero. None of his films were successful, and production is a thankless job. That was my motivation to succeed,” he revealed.Looking back at a turning point in his career, Kapoor spoke about working with Subhash Ghai on ‘Meri Jung’. He admitted that the film changed his approach to performance. “Everyone said I’m a very English actor, underplaying and being real. But while shooting for court scenes in ‘Meri Jung’, Subhash ji told me, ‘Anil, this is a commercial film, you have to throw your voice.’ That’s when I learned to be a mainstream hero,” Kapoor said. He also acknowledged the impact of international cinema on his craft. Watching Dustin Hoffman’s Oscar-winning act in Rain Man left a lasting impression on him while preparing for Eeshwar. “I was in love with that film. I always wanted to play a similar character. It was unreal,” he shared.Despite being 69, Kapoor continues to bring unmatched energy to his work, something he attributes to a lingering sense of insecurity. “I want to work, I want to be seen, and I want to do good work. My motivation is to make my director happy and to give my best. That energy comes from a kind of insecurity,” he admitted. His nex, ‘Subedaar’, directed by Suresh Triveni is set to release on March 5. The film also features Radhikka Madan, Saurabh Shukla, Aditya Rawal, Faisal Malik and Mona Singh in key roles.
