Akshaye got emotional after seeing himself as Rehman Dakait

‘Dhurandhar’: Akshaye Khanna got emotional after seeing himself as Rehman Dakait, reminded him of father Vinod Khanna; reveals prosthetic and character designer

Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’ trailer and box office run spark buzz with its action, songs, and looks. Prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh reveals Ranveer’s daily prep took 1.5-2 hours, using wigs/extensions for his evolving spy—from rugged streets to gang life. Akshaye Khanna’s suave, receding wig evoked Vinod Khanna. Cast: Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan.

Ranveer Singh’s latest film ‘Dhurandhar’ has become a topic of discussion since the trailer release. The film recently hit the big screen and has marked a strong run at the box office. Apart from song and high action, the character’s look has impressed the audience. Recently, Prosthetic and character designer Preetisheel Singh shared that Ranveer and Akshaye Khanna’s transformations were some of the most carefully crafted parts.

Hours to prepare Ranveer Singh for his look

Talking to The Hollywood Report India, Preetisheel revealed Ranveer’s appearance needed accuracy every day on set. She said that roughly, it would take 1.5 hours to prepare. If there was blood work with scars and bruising, maybe two hours. Preetisheel further said that over the years, in the film, Ranveer’s character grows his beard and does not cut his hair, so she used a lot of extensions and wigs, for both beard and hair, because they were going back and forth between the looks while shooting.

Struggle to prepare Ranveer Singh’s character

She explained that Ranveer’s look and said that ‘Dhurandhar’ expands over a certain time period, and she wanted to track that journey from getting into the ‘spy look’, where Singh doesn’t have access to money, doesn’t even have a house to stay in, being on the streets, to entering the gang. Preetisheel wanted to show the initial rugged rawness, where he is not grooming himself every day, with unkempt grungy hair, tied into a ponytail sometimes.

About Akshaye Khanna’s character look

Preetisheel, who also designed Akshaye as Aurangzeb for ‘Chhaava’, shared that Khanna has a lot of experience working with wigs. He wanted to refrain from how he has already been shown and wanted his charisma to come across. She further said that there is a suaveness in his character, where his mere presence commands attention. Khanna doesn’t need to say much. He gave him soft waves, and they showed the receding hairline. It is not a full head of hair. “I remember doing the trial, he was looking at himself in the mirror, telling me he was reminded of his late father, Vinod Khanna”, she shared.
