Akansha on how husband’s tough love keeps her grounded

'Sharan Sharma is very critical': Newlywed Akansha Ranjan Kapoor opens up on how husband's tough love keeps her grounded and industry privilege

Newlywed Akansha Ranjan Kapoor revealed husband Sharan Sharma is her toughest critic, praising his “tough love” after watching Gram Chikitsalay. She took the role to break preconceived notions and addressed industry privilege chatter, saying she’d rather let her work speak. The couple married on July 11, 2026, in Mumbai.

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor has had quite an eventful few days. Just 10 days after marrying her partner of four years, director Sharan Sharma, she revealed that he continues to be her harshest critic. Although the couple makes it a point to keep their personal and professional lives separate, Sharma still remains the one she goes to for honest, unfiltered feedback. Regarding the industry privilege debate, Akansha shared that she’d rather let her work speak for itself, a philosophy she’s put into practice by taking on demanding roles like ‘Gram Chikitsalay.’

Akansha Ranjan Kapoor on Sharan’s reaction to ‘Gram Chikitsalay’

As reported in Mid-day, Kapoor revealed that Sharma is usually the first one to watch her work, saying, “He is very critical. It comes from a place of tough love. After watching Gram Chikitsalay, he hugged me and said that I looked like I belonged in that world.”

That feedback meant a lot to Kapoor, who portrays a rural doctor in the slice-of-life series. In fact, one of her key reasons for signing Gram Chikitsalay was to break away from certain preconceived notions about her. “I wanted to be part of TVF’s [The Viral Fever] storytelling and world-building. A lot of people couldn’t see how I would fit into this world, so I was keen on showing a different side of me.”

Many believe that Kapoor, who is close friends with Alia Bhatt, has had an easier time in the industry because of her well-connected social circle. But she doesn’t let this talk bother her. “People are allowed to have their opinions. Time will tell. Till then, I want to do good work.”
