Adam Sandler tops 2025 actors’ earnings as streaming fees dominate pay

Adam Sandler tops the 2025 actors’ earnings list as the fee from streaming platforms dominates pay

The year 2025 brought unexpected challenges for Hollywood’s top stars, with overall actor earnings dipping alarmingly. While iconic figures maintain their allure, the real winners are those capitalizing on streaming platforms, where deals are not just profitable but reliable. Adam Sandler’s massive contract with Netflix is a testament to the evolving landscape where digital streaming reigns supreme.

Hollywood’s pay hierarchy is huge, and the 2025 numbers show a clear shift. Big stars still land massive checks, yet fewer actor-led films turned into reliable box office wins.Further, total earnings for the 20 highest-paid actors fell to USD 590 million from USD 730 million, according to Forbes.

Movie star salaries in 2025

According to Forbes, Adam Sandler led the 2025 list with USD 48 million after fees, well below last year’s top figure of USD 88 million. The report suggests that streaming remains the safest home for many stars, with Sandler’s long-running Netflix pact still setting the pace. The outlet’s new ranking argues that while movie-star power has weakened at the box office, it still matters when studios build a package around a film.

Streaming deals vs theatrical box office

Universal put Scarlett Johansson in ‘Jurassic World: Rebirth,’ and Apple backed Brad Pitt in ‘F1,’ two of the year’s biggest hits. Marvel also turned to Robert Downey Jr. for ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with compensation estimated at more than USD 100 million across two films. Studios clearly still believe familiar names bring attention, even when they cannot guarantee a smash.Streaming, though, offered the steadiest protection. Sandler stayed secure at Netflix. Denzel Washington landed a huge deal for ‘Highest 2 Lowest.’ Daniel Craig kept cashing in on the ‘Knives Out’ franchise at Netflix. Mark Wahlberg, who starred in projects for Amazon and Apple, emerged as a streaming-first force. Millie Bobby Brown, meanwhile, became the clearest example of a streaming-native star crossing into elite pay territory. The list also shows how uneven star power has become. Leonardo DiCaprio’s ‘One Battle After Another’ fell short of his usual standards, but his value remained robust. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney earned solid up-front pay but still face questions about long-term bankability. Timothée Chalamet, Michael B. Jordan, and Zendaya look poised to join the top tier next.

The 20 highest-paid actors of 2025, by gross earnings:

• Adam Sandler — USD 60 million gross• Tom Cruise — USD 54 million gross• Mark Wahlberg — USD 58 million gross• Scarlett Johansson — USD 50 million gross• Brad Pitt — USD 54 million gross• Denzel Washington — USD 42 million gross• Jack Black — USD 33 million gross• Jason Momoa — USD 33 million gross• Daniel Craig — USD 32 million gross• Millie Bobby Brown — USD 35 million gross• John Cena — USD 35 million gross• Reese Witherspoon — USD 34 million gross• George Clooney — USD 30 million gross• Leonardo DiCaprio — USD 29 million gross• Rob Mac — USD 30 million gross• Chris Pratt — USD 29 million gross• Tom Hardy — USD 28 million gross• Jennifer Aniston — USD 26 million gross• Cameron Diaz — USD 23 million gross• Jason Bateman — USD 25 million gross Go to Source
