Abhishek Bachchan’s longtime makeup artist Ashok Sawant passes away; actor pens heartbreaking note: ‘He was part of my family’

Abhishek Bachchan is heartbroken following the passing of his longtime makeup artist, Ashok Sawant, who was like family and worked with him for over 27 years. Sawant, known for his dedication and gentle nature, continued to check on Bachchan even when unwell. Bachchan shared a touching ritual of seeking Sawant’s blessings before his first shot in new films.

Abhishek Bachchan’s longtime makeup artist, Ashok Sawant, passed away on Sunday, November 9, leaving the actor heartbroken. The duo shared a special bond that went beyond work. Taking to Instagram, the ‘Guru’ actor penned a heartfelt tribute to the man who had been by his side for over 27 years, calling him “part of my family”. Along with emotional words, he also shared throwback photos that captured their beautiful friendship behind the camera.

Sharing his feelings on Instagram, the ‘Bunty Aur Babli’ actor wrote, “Ashok dada and I have worked together for over 27 years. He has been doing my make-up since my very first film. He wasn’t just a part of my team, he was part of my family. His elder brother Deepak has been my father’s make-up man for close to 50 years.”

Actor recalls how Ashok stayed dedicated

In his post, the ‘Dhoom’ actor also shared that Sawant had been unwell for the last few years but continued to check on him during shoots. He wrote, “The last couple of years he was ailing so couldn’t always be on set with me. But whenever I was shooting, there wasn’t a single day he wouldn’t check on me. Making sure his assistant was taking care of how my make-up was done. He was the most loving, gentle and affable person. Always a smile on his face, a ready warm embrace and some amazing namkeen chivda or bhakar wadi tucked away in his bag. Last night we lost him.”

Abhishek Bachchan reveals his touching on-set ritual

The ‘Dostana’ actor also revealed a personal ritual he followed before every film. He wrote, “He was the first person whose feet I would touch and take his blessings whenever I gave my first shot of a new film. From now on I will have to look up to the heavens and know that you’ll be looking down and blessing me.”The actor ended his emotional post by expressing his gratitude and heartbreak, “Thank you dada, for your love, your care, your dignity, your talent and for your smile. It’s heartbreaking to even think of going to work and knowing that you won’t be with me. I pray you are in peace and I look forward to the bear-hug when we meet again. Rest in peace and happiness Ashok Sawant.”

Soon after Abhishek shared his post, many from the film industry came forward to offer their condolences. Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar, Ranveer Singh, and other celebs also offered condolences in the comments section. Jackie Shroff wrote, “Om Shanti such a gentle soul he was my Condolences.”
