Abhay Verma talks about growing comfort among women

International Men's Day 2025: ‘Telling men about things like their periods’; Abhay Verma talks about growing comfort among women

Abhay Verma gained fame with his role as Bittu in the 2023 film ‘Munjya’. Now, he’s starring in romantic comedies like ‘Laikey Laikaa’ and a project with Shanaya Kapoor. Growing up in Haryana, he learned manliness meant strength, but now sees it as empathy and understanding in today’s world.

Abhay Verma gained widespread recognition with his heartfelt performance as Bittu in the 2023 film ‘Munjya’. Following this success, he is set to appear in several romantic comedies, including ‘Laikey Laikaa’, alongside Rasha Thadani, and another project featuring Shanaya Kapoor. Despite the modern roles he portrays, Abhay reveals that the traditional ideas of masculinity he grew up with were quite different from the sensitive and layered characters he plays today.

From physical strength to empathy

Talking to Hindustan Times, Abhay revealed that he grew up in Haryana, where the idea of manliness was often tied to physical strength. It wasn’t about influence but more about body power and the ability to intimidate others. However, as he got older, he understood that true manliness is the opposite; it is about being empathetic and understanding rather than using intimidation. He believes this is what truly makes a man better.

Improved gender understanding among today’s men

When asked about one positive change in this generation of men compared to the previous one, Abhay said, “The understanding with the other sex is better in today’s men. I have seen people, including myself, who are very sensitive towards women and their needs. A great example of this is that today girls feel comfortable telling men about things like their periods. It takes a lot for a woman to say that to a man, and to get that kind of trust is a big thing. ”

Clarifying love and relationships in the modern age

The actor expresses that the main difference he sees in today’s generation compared to previous ones is in their understanding of love. He emphasizes that the current generation should recognize the pseudo definitions of love that often prevail, such as those hidden behind terms like “situationship.” He believes love is the greatest emotion and should remain pure. The positive change they can bring about is clarity about what they truly want and avoiding playing with others’ emotions.
