Aamir Khan reveals PK’s original script was changed due to OMG

Aamir Khan reveals PK’s original script was changed due to OMG similarity; says he and Rajkumar Hirani were 'not fully happy'

Bollywood’s “Mr Perfectionist” Aamir Khan may have delivered one of the biggest blockbusters of his career with PK, but the actor has now revealed that he and director Rajkumar Hirani were not completely satisfied with the final product. In a recent conversation with Variety India, Aamir candidly opened up about creative compromises made before the film’s release.

“Originally, he had written a different script”

Reflecting on the film’s journey, Aamir said, “In the case of PK, which was a huge success, both Raju and I were not really fully happy with the film. Because originally, he had written a different script, and the second half was slightly different from what we made. But there was another film that came out just before us called OMG – Oh My God! and the themes were kind of similar.”The 2012 film starred Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal, and revolved around religion and blind faith — themes that also formed the core of PK.

“Raju was very adamant that we must change our second half”

Aamir further revealed that Hirani insisted on reworking the second half of PK to avoid thematic overlap.“The plot was totally different, because here (in PK) there is an alien, and it’s all totally different, but some of the themes were similar. Raju was very adamant that we must change our second half, and we did. The film was also a success. But before the release, Raju and I discussed how we were not totally happy with the film, but how this was the best we could have done. Luckily, the film worked, and it was a big success,” he shared.Despite their reservations, PK went on to become a massive commercial hit and one of the most talked-about films of its time.
