‘A filmmaker is a fairer god’: Mahesh Bhatt

‘A filmmaker is a fairer god’: Mahesh Bhatt opens up on crafting soulful love stories - Exclusive

Filmmaker Mahesh Bahtt is all set to engage the audience with his new movie ‘Tu Meri Poori Kahani.’ This romantic musical tells the tale of a couple, where the girl is asked to choose between love and fame, and the aftermath that follows. In the day and age, where something and someone is always left behind, is left unsaid, unfulfilled, this title ‘Meri Poori Kahani’ piqued interest. When asked about the same in our exclusive conversation with him, Mahesh Bhatt said, “I can say only one thing, that a filmmaker is a fairer god.”

Mahesh Bhatt speaks on unrequited love

The filmmaker continued how, in real life, because of one reason or the other, mankind faces the sad reality of unrequited love. He expressed, “Hemingway said that all love stories, if they are pushed to the final resolution point, end in a tragedy, one of the partners leaves. As we know, the sages, the seers, and the inevitable truth of life is that whatever you love, you will have to one day part with it.” The ace filmmaker continued, “So, mankind has been dealing with this problem of human engagement with the heart, wholehearted relationships, and the certainty of loss in some kind or of some kind. Loss, either when it’s a betrayal or when the passions die, or when somebody else arrives in the scene, or diverse interests that pull you away.”

Mahesh Bhatt says ‘Tu Meri Poori Kahani’ is a balm that mankind needs

As aforementioned, the movie shows the female protagonist at a crossroads where she can either follow her heart or her dreams. Mahesh Bhatt added that this story came from the real-life experience of the movie’s director, Suhrita Das. “In this case, the conflict, as Suhrita herself has faced in real life, from where the story has been plucked, whether love is important or fame is important. The problems that women face today are that they are supposed to take care of the home and put their ambitions on a back burner, or they can do both simultaneously,” he said before adding, “So, a filmmaker, as I said, is a fairer God. The need for a ‘Poori Kahani’ is a balm that mankind needs in these turbulent times. So that being a need, we made a very realistic story, plucked from what Suhrita has lived.”

Anticipation of the judgment day

Releasing on September 27, the film stars two debutants – Hirranya Ojha and Arhaan Pateel. Looking forward to the big day, Mahesh Bhatt shares, “The stories are lived into, and then they are made into movies. We have given it a kind of texture and the echoes of the time we live in. The music has worked wonders. The trailer seems to be doing its task. My only concern is, come judgment day, will we have, with these newcomers, enough bums on the seats to view?”“Because once they come in, they are certainly going to love the film, and then the word of mouth spreads, but you need a sizeable number of people in the room to be the ambassadors of the word of mouth,” he concluded.
