US Supreme Court backs Trump’s sweeping immigration raids in LA

In a big win for US President Donald Trump, who has vowed to deport illegal “aliens” from America, the 6-3 decision will now allow agents to carry out raids against people based solely on their race, language or job

The US Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump administration can continue immigration raids across Los Angeles, lifting a previous ban imposed by a federal judge that barred ICE agents from making stops without “reasonable suspicion”.

In a big win for US President Donald Trump, who has vowed to deport illegal “aliens” from America, the 6-3 decision will now allow agents to carry out raids against people based solely on their race, language or job.

In Monday’s ruling, Conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh stated that the lower court had overstepped its authority by imposing a restraining order that overly limited the ability of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to stop or question individuals suspected of being in the country unlawfully.

“To be clear, apparent ethnicity alone cannot furnish reasonable suspicion. However, it can be a ‘relevant factor’ when considered along with other salient factors,” he said.
