‘Our movie making business has been stolen…’: Trump announces 100% tariff on all foreign-made films

Trump announced plans to impose a 100 per cent tariff on all foreign-made movies, a move that could disrupt Hollywood’s global business and raise uncertainty for studios dependent on overseas markets.

US President Donald Trump on Monday (Sept 29) said he would impose a 100 per cent tariff on all movies made outside the United States. According to a report from Reuters, the move that could have a massive impact on Hollywood’s global business.

“Our movie making business has been stolen from the United States of America, by other Countries, just like stealing candy from a baby,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “California, with its weak and incompetent Governor, has been particularly hard hit! Therefore, in order to solve this long time, never ending problem, I will be imposing a 100% Tariff on any and all movies that are made outside of the United States.”

The announcement signals Trump’s push to expand protectionist trade policies into cultural industries, raising doubts for studios that rely on foreign markets and co-productions.
