Two terrorists and two soldiers were killed in an encounter in Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Monday (Sept 8), officials said, with another soldier injured in the clash.
The gunfight occurred in the Guddar forest during a joint operation by the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF, codenamed ‘Operation Guddar’, launched based on specific intelligence inputs. Three Army personnel were injured in the exchange, with two later succumbing to their injuries in hospital.
Security forces said the search operation turned into an encounter after the terrorists opened fire on their positions.
“Based on specific intelligence input by JKP, a joint search operation was launched by #IndianArmy, @JmuKmrPolice & @crpf_srinagar in Guddar forest of #Kulgam,” the Army’s Chinar Corps posted on X.
It added that troops spotted suspicious activity and, when challenged, the terrorists fired back, “prompting a fierce exchange of gunfire during which one terrorist has been eliminated and a junior commissioned officer suffered injuries.”
Initial reports indicated that one of the killed terrorists was a local, while the other is believed to be a foreign militant with the code name ‘Rehman Bhai’.
