Man United sets sights on Crystal Palace star after splurging more than £200m in summer transfer window

After making several high-profile signings this summer, Manchester United have one eye on the January transfer window in which they hope to land a player who played a key role in Crystal Palace’s recent FA Cup and Community Shield heroics.

Manchester United have had quite the busy summer transfer window, with Ruben Amorim’s side opting for an extensive makeover after finishing 15th on the Premier League points table last season, their lowest finish in the English top-flight in more than half-a-century.

Not only have the ‘Red Devils’ splurged more than £200 million on a complete overhaul of their attack by signing the trio of Benjamin Sesko, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha, they also signed 23-year-old Belgian Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for £18 million on 1 September, the deadline day.

United sets sights on ‘potential game-changer’ Wharton

The Manchester United board’s focus will no doubt shift to Amorim and whether he can transform the struggling giants’ fortunes with his new signings, with his future at Old Trafford tied to the next set of matches. At the same time, they will have one eye on the January Transfer Window, with the 20-time English top-flight champions already having their sights set on some individuals.

According to TeamTalk, United and Chelsea are among front-runners to sign Crystal Palace’ Adam Wharton in the next transfer window, with the two Premier League giants identifying the 21-year-old midfielder – who had starred in The Eagles’ historic triumphs in the FA Cup and the Community Shield – their first major trophies in their 120-year history.

Wharton, whose current contract with Palace runs till 2029, will likely be brought in as a replacement for Brazilian midfielder Casemiro.

Several players have also left Old Trafford in recent weeks following United’s high-profile acquisitions. Marcus Rashford and Antony have moved to Spain for loan spells with FC Barcelona and Real Betis respectively while Alejandro Garnacho has joined Chelsea for £40 million. Rasmus Hojlund, meanwhile, has returned to Italy after signing a loan deal with Napoli.

And according to TeamTalk, United are also closing in on an ideal scenario where they part ways with misfiring Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana. The report claims that discussions currently are on between Old Trafford and clubs in multiple leagues, with a move to the Saudi Pro League appearing most likely at the moment.
