US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he intends to file a $15 billion defamation and libel lawsuit against The New York Times, days after the paper published articles on his alleged ties to disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.

The statement follows Trump’s threat last week to take legal action over the Times’ reporting on a sexually suggestive note and drawing linked to Epstein.

“Today, I have the Great Honor of bringing a $15 Billion Dollar Defamation and Libel Lawsuit against The New York Times, one of the worst and most degenerate newspapers in the history of our country, becoming a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party,” Trump wrote on his social media platform Truth Social.

The president accused the newspaper of spreading lies about him, his family, and his businesses, as well as Republican-led causes including the America First movement and Make America Great Again (MAGA). He added that the lawsuit would be filed in Florida, though he provided no further details.

According to Reuters, The New York Times did not immediately respond to their request for comment outside regular business hours.
