US President Donald Trump on Friday said that he will deploy the National Guard to Memphis to tackle rising crime in the city. Speaking to Fox News, Trump called Memphis as “deeply troubled” and said the move had the support of both the city’s mayor and the governor of Tennessee.

“We’re going to Memphis. Memphis is deeply troubled. The mayor is happy, he is a Democratic mayor… and the governor of Tennessee is happy,” Trump said. “We’re going to fix it like we did Washington.”

He added that the National Guard would be joined by any other forces necessary to restore order, including the military if required. “National Guard and anybody else we will need. Military, if we need it,” he said.
