US President Donald Trump on Wednesday dismissed the escalating political furore related to the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein files a “Democrat hoax”, and said they should instead be talking about him “ending seven wars” across the world.

His remarks came as he spoke at the White House, near where a crowd overtook the steps of the Capitol to hear from lawmakers and Epstein survivors about why Congress needs to demand more transparency from the executive branch related to Epstein’s crimes, according to CNN.

“This is a Democrat hoax that never ends,” Trump said as he responded to a question on survivors of Jeffrey Epstein calling for the case files to be released.

“From what I understand, thousands of pages of documents have been given, but it’s really a Democrat hoax, because they are trying to get people to talk about something that’s totally irrelevant to the success that we have had as a nation since I’ve been the President,” Trump said.

“Even if you look at (Washington) DC now, DC is a totally safe zone. You can walk down the street now and nothing’s gonna happen, no crimes, no murders, no nothing,” he said.

“We have a lot of problems with certain places, and we still do, all run by Democrats,” the US President added.

“So, what they are trying to do with the Epstein hoax is get people to talk about that, instead of speaking about the tremendous success like ending seven wars. I ended seven wars, nobody is gonna talk about it, cause they’re gonna talk about the Epstein, whatever,” he asserted.

“I understand that we’ve given thousands of pages of files, and I know that no matter what you do, it’s gonna keep going. I think it’s enough because we should talk about the greatness of our country and the success that we’re having,” Trump said.

“I think we’re probably having, according to what I read from even two people in this room, we’re having the most successful eight months of any President, ever, and that’s what I wanna talk about, that’s what we should be talking about, not the Epstein hoax,” the US President said.
