Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that global powers cannot afford to stand alone in an increasingly volatile world, stressing that “superpowers need allies” and that Israel remains a vital partner in confronting shared threats such as Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

Speaking in an interview, Netanyahu said that even the strongest nations depend on alliances for security, technological advancement, and intelligence-sharing. “America First doesn’t mean America alone, because all countries need allies. Superpowers need allies. China has allies. Russia has allies,” he said, emphasising that cooperation is key to sustaining strategic advantage.

Netanyahu made the remarks on October 7, exactly two years after the Hamas attack on Israel.

He described Israel as a “fighting ally that pulls its weight,” noting that his country has defended itself for decades without seeking foreign troops. “We don’t ask for Americans to bring boots on the ground. We’ve done the job of defending ourselves pretty well over the last 77 years,” Netanyahu said.

Turning to Iran, the Israeli leader claimed that Tehran’s efforts to develop intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear warheads pose a direct threat to the United States.

“Iran is developing now ballistic missiles with an 8,000-kilometre range. Add another 3,000 kilometres, and they’ve got under their atomic guns New York City, Washington, Boston, Miami, Mar-a-Lago,” he warned.

Netanyahu credited US President Donald Trump for what he described as a decisive and “judicious” approach in countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions without sparking a larger regional war.

“We had exactly the right alliance in which we shared the labour, and we achieved this neutralisation of Iran, which could blackmail every American city,” he said.

The Israeli prime minister’s remarks come amid renewed tensions in the Middle East over Iran’s advancing nuclear capabilities and ongoing US efforts to curb Tehran’s weapons program through diplomatic and economic means.
