“I call on Russia to end this dangerous escalation. I reiterate to the Polish nation and its government our full expressions of solidarity. I will soon hold a conversation with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte. We will not make any compromises on the issue of the security of the Allies,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned that Russia’s move to send multiple drones into Polish airspace posed “an extremely dangerous precedent for Europe”.

“Today there was another step of escalation – Russian-Iranian “shaheds” operated in the airspace of Poland, in NATO airspace. It was not just one “shahed” that could be called an accident, but at least eight strike drones aimed toward Poland. It was not just one ‘shahed’ that could be called an accident, but at least eight strike drones aimed toward Poland. An extremely dangerous precedent for Europe,” he said in a post on X.

“Whether there will be further steps depends entirely on the coordination and strength of the response. The Russians must feel the consequences. Russia must feel that the war cannot be expanded and will have to be ended,” he further said.

Emphasising that a strong response in needed, he said that “it can only be a joint response by all partners: Ukraine, Poland, all Europeans, the United States”.

Early Wednesday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk wrote on social media that “Last night the Polish airspace was violated by a huge number of Russian drones. Those drones that posed a direct threat were shot down.”

Warsaw’s Chopin Airport suspended flights for several hours, citing the closure of airspace due to military operations.

The Polish armed forces said Wednesday morning that a search for possible crash sites is ongoing and urged people not to approach, touch or move any objects they see, warning that they may pose a threat and could contain hazardous material.
