PoK faced escalating tension as the administration ordered an indefinite lockdown amid last week’s protests led by the JKJAAC. The JKJAAC has laid a 38-point charter of demands before the government, which includes removal of perks of the ruling elites, ending 12 seats in the Assembly reserved for Kashmiri migrants who come from the Indian-side of the territory, and royalty for hydel power projects in the region.

In a new video statement released by the JKJAAC, member Shoukat Nawaz Mir urged overseas Kashmiris to raise voice globally against the atrocities conducted by Pakistan Security Forces in the valley during the protests.

The government started firing on peaceful protesters, leading to the death of one protester and leaving multiple injured, said Mir, adding many were arrested.

Mir alleged that Pakistan had made a plan to kill them. “We are appealing to our Kashmiri brothers who are living abroad, please raise the voice against the atrocities,” he said.

Pakistan suspended cellular and fiber internet services and mobile phone service was also suspended across the occupied territories. The show of force by the government came as the JKJAAC escalated its campaign, vowing to shut down the region to protest what it calls the decades-long denial of fundamental rights.

Last week, the talks between Pakistan Federal Ministers Delegation and Members of Joint action committee failed because Pakistan government couldn’t meet the demands of the committee.

“Pakistan has deployed 2000 additional troops of Punjab Police, Rangers and frontier constabulary in to crush protesters. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in all district headquarters of PoK. All major roads leading to Kashmir are closed, with snap checking at all points,” News18 had quoted sources as saying earlier.
