US President Donald Trump while addressing the nation’s top military officials said that Pakistan Field Marshall Asim Munir credited him for “saving a million lives” during the recent conflict between India and Pakistan.

“The Prime Minister of Pakistan was here along with the Field Marshall, a very important person and he was here three days ago. And I did not even realise it as beautiful as he said it. He said ‘this man saved millions of lives because he saved the war from going on, President Trump saved millions and millions of lives’ and ‘that was a bad war’”, Trump quoted Munir as saying.

“I was very honoured and loved the way he said it. Susie Wiles was there and she said that was the most beautiful thing,” Trump said, referring to the White House Chief of Staff’s reaction to Munir’s praise.

The remarks were made in a reference to the US President’s 20-point Gaza peace plan and lauded Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir for backing the Gaza peace plan.

“It just came out as I was walking around. They (officials) said, ‘Sir you have a big notice from the Prime Minister of Pakistan and from the Field Marshal’ that they back this 100%,” Trump added.

Following this, Shehbaz Sharif took to X to welcome Trump’s proposal and said that a durable peace between Palestinians and Israelis is essential for political stability and economic growth in the region.

Former Indian foreign secretary Kanwal Sibal took to social media to highlight that the US President was “fooled easily” by the Pakistani field marshall.

Sibal questioned how Donald Trump saw himself as “hardheaded businessman who knows the art of the deal” but “is so soft headed and gets blown over by those who use the art of flattery to play with his self-esteem”.

“What naiveté!” Sibal remarked.
