At the 6th round of the Pakistan-China Strategic Dialogue held in Islamabad, both countries engaged in an in-depth exchange of views on their bilateral relationship, with a significant portion of the talks focused on rising security concerns. Top sources indicated to CNN-News18 that China expressed deep worries about a new wave of terrorism and threats, particularly in Pakistan’s western provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
During the dialogue, China’s core demand centred on the speedy completion of pending projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Chinese officials urged their Pakistani counterparts to guarantee the security of Chinese citizens, staff, and CPEC assets. This concern has intensified in the wake of repeated attacks on Chinese nationals and projects, which have slowed progress on key infrastructure initiatives.

In response, Pakistan provided full assurance of its commitment to ensuring the complete security of all Chinese personnel and assets within its borders. The Pakistani side reiterated its resolve to combat terrorism and protect the strategic partnership from any threats. The dialogue also provided an opportunity to discuss the future roadmap for the next phase of the CPEC, known as Phase 2.0. This new phase is expected to expand cooperation into new sectors, including trade, agriculture, and mining, moving beyond the initial focus on infrastructure.
In addition to security and CPEC, the two sides also discussed broader aspects of their all-weather strategic partnership. Discussions covered strengthening trade and economic relations, enhancing multilateral cooperation, and fostering people-to-people ties. The dialogue underscored the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations and their shared vision for regional peace, stability, and prosperity.
