Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA a close aide of US President Donald Trump, who was killed earlier this month, could soon become one of the youngest Americans ever memorialised on US currency. The Republicans have introduced a new Bill that seeks to honour the activist by minting 4,00,000 commemorative silver coins with his image.

The Bill, led by Alexander Hamadeh and August Pfluger, proposes the creation of the dollar coins through the US Mint with Kirk’s image. According to a report by Fox News Digital, the reverse of the coin will bear the phrase “Well done, good and faithful servant”, along with other standard inscriptions such as “In God We Trust” and “E Pluribus Unum”.

As per the proposed legislation, the Treasury Secretary will be responsible for finalising the coin’s design in consultation with Trump. If approved, the coin will be issued in 2026—the year designated on the coin’s surface.

In a statement, Hamadeh said: “Charlie Kirk was an American patriot whose influence on conservative thought and youth engagement will be remembered for generations. This coin will honour his legacy and inspire others.”

Under current law, living individuals are prohibited from appearing on US currency. Commemorative coins are typically issued in limited quantities and sold to collectors, with proceeds often directed toward related causes or organisations.

The coin will place Kirk in the ranks of historical figures such as Dwight D Eisenhower and Susan B Anthony, both of whom have been honoured on US currency. However, some legal experts note that commemorative coin legislation is generally reserved for figures with long-established historical legacies and Kirk’s relatively recent and politically polarising career may make the proposal contentious.

Charlie Kirk’s Death

Kirk was shot dead on September 10 during an event on a Utah university campus. The 31-year-old was a provocative right-wing commentator who was known for his extreme views on gun control and women’s issues.

The activist’s statement—“I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights”—went viral after he was killed in cold blood by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson. Robinson, 22, is accused of firing a single bullet from a rooftop, fatally hitting Kirk in the neck in front of thousands of people.

A huge manhunt ended 33 hours later when Robinson’s parents persuaded him to turn himself in after seeing photos of the wanted man.

Utah County Attorney Jeff Gray cited lengthy text message exchanges between Robinson and his roommate, whom he described as “a biological male who was transitioning genders” and was in a romantic relationship with Robinson.

Gray said on the day of the murder, Robinson had texted his roommate to say there was a message under his keyboard. “I had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and I’m going to take it,” said the note. In one part of the exchange, the roommate, who was not named, asked Robinson why he had killed Kirk. “I had enough of his hatred. Some hate can’t be negotiated out,” Robinson says before telling the roommate to delete the exchange.
