In a shocking incident in Moradabad district, Uttar Pradesh, a 15-day-old newborn was allegedly placed in a freezer by his mother while she went to sleep on Friday, leaving the community horrified.

What Led To This Shocking Act?

Following investigation and medical evaluation, the incident has been attributed to postpartum psychosis. Postpartum psychosis, a rare but severe condition, affects some women following childbirth, causing them to lose touch with reality.

What Is Postpartum Psychosis?

According to doctors, hormonal changes and mental pressure post-delivery can lead to aggressive behaviour, irrational decisions, and even self-harm or harm to the child. Early identification and treatment are crucial for managing this illness.

Family Undergoing Medical Care

Following the incident, the family promptly sought medical help for the woman, and her treatment has commenced. They expressed relief that the child’s life was saved and committed to ensuring the woman’s complete recovery to prevent future occurrences.

The news of the incident has caused widespread concern in Moradabad’s Karula locality, highlighting the importance of monitoring the mental health of women after childbirth. The community is now more aware of the dangers associated with postpartum psychosis and the need for vigilance and timely intervention.
