ED Attaches Properties Worth Over Rs 13 Crore Linked To Chhangur Baba’s Aide

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) took major action against the Changur syndicate involved in illegal religious conversions by attaching 13 immovable properties. The properties are provisionally attatched under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

These properties, valued at Rs 13.02 crore (approximately $1.56 million), were registered under the name of Neetu Naveen Rohra in Balrampur. ED arrested Jalaluddin Shah alias Chhangur Baba on July 28 and Naveen Rohra on August 4 on charges of money laundering.

Naveen’s Dubai-based company, United Marine, was used to orchestrate the conspiracy. As per the ED officials, large sums of money from unknown sources were deposited into United Marine’s bank accounts.

Later, Rs 21.08 crore (approximately $2.5 million) was transferred to Naveen Rohra’s NRE/NRO bank accounts. These funds were then funnelled from Dubai to Indian accounts.

Changur and Naveen Rohra utilized this money to purchase immovable properties in Balrampur, all of which were bought under the name of Naveen’s wife, Neetu Rohra.

The money laundering case was lodged against Chhangur Baba after an FIR lodged by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) at a police station in Lucknow’s Gomti Nagar under various sections of the IPC and the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act, 2021.

The ED alleged that Chhangur Baba and Navin Rohra orchestrated “well-planned” conspiracy and utilised the bank account of Navin Rohra’s Dubai-based company named United Marine FZE to get funds from unknown, suspicious sources.

Funds amounting to Rs 21.08 crore were routed to India through the NRE/NRO accounts of Navin Rohra, the probe agency further claimed.

“The money brought by Chhangur Baba and Navin Rohra from Dubai to India was utilised to acquire a number of immovable properties in the name of Nitu Rohra in Utraula,” ED was cited by PTI as saying.
