Delhi Police arrested two members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang following an exchange of fire in New Ashok Nagar, officials said on Thursday.

The accused, identified as Kartik Jakhar and Kavish, allegedly opened fire on police personnel during the encounter. In retaliation, one of them was shot in the leg before both were apprehended.

Police said the duo worked as henchmen for US-based gangster Harry Boxer, who already faces more than half a dozen criminal cases.

The crackdown comes amid a broader investigation into the Bishnoi network.

Earlier this month, Jharkhand’s Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) achieved a breakthrough with the extradition of gangster Mayank Singh, alias Sunil Meena, from Baku, Azerbaijan – the first such operation in the state’s history.

“Prima facie, he appears to be a point of contact between Aman Sahu and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. We will interrogate him and gather all the details regarding the relationship between the two gangs,” said Rishav Kumar Jha, SP, ATS.

Singh, who has nearly 50 criminal cases registered against him in Jharkhand, Rajasthan and other states, is believed to have directed operations from abroad.

In May 2024, acting on intelligence inputs, Raipur Police arrested four suspected shooters from Rajasthan and Jharkhand linked to the Aman Sahu gang.

Investigators said the men were in constant touch with Singh, carrying out assignments for both Bishnoi and Sahu while using codenames for their operations.

The group was allegedly targeting businesses across Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and Rajasthan, and was planning multiple attacks when they were intercepted. Police also seized a pistol intended for use in the crimes.
