A 16-year-old girl and her 20-year-old boyfriend were arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Etah for allegedly strangling her 13-year-old brother after he discovered them together inside the family’s home, police said. The incident took place in Nagla Mitan village where the boy, a Class 4 student, was found dead inside the house. Police said a post-mortem confirmed death by strangulation.

Preliminary investigations revealed the girl was in a relationship with Vinay Sharma, 20, a resident of the same village. Jalesar SHO Sudhir Kumar Singh said the girl initially misled investigators but later confessed in the presence of her family.

“Her father was away at his farm, and her mother was also not at home when Sharma visited her late at night. The boy walked in on them and threatened to raise an alarm. To silence him, Sharma allegedly held his mouth shut while the girl strangled him. Afterwards, Sharma fled. The girl then tried to stage a drama the next morning by pretending to discover her brother dead,” the police said.

Vinay Sharma was sent to jail while the girl has been lodged in a juvenile home, the police said.
