Union Minister of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Minister of Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, gave a clarion call to take a pledge to promote swadeshi and to use products made in India.

The Minister was addressing the Samunnati and NABARD supported 5th FPO Conclave at Hyderabad, Telangana, which brought together over 1,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), industry leaders and agri stakeholders from across the country.

He reaffirmed that the Prime Minister is firmly resolved that the interests of farmers will never be compromised.

Talking about FPOs, Chouhan said, “Farming on small landholdings and adding value to produce is not something a farmer can achieve alone. Farmers must come together, form groups, and work collectively. When farmers unite and create strategic groups, they can add value to their produce, ensure effective marketing, packaging, transportation, and quality control, and bring their products to a standard fit for export to global markets. This requires joint effort and collaboration. If organizations, farmers, the government, and scientists work together, we can progress rapidly.”

On this occasion, Prof. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog said, “If the FPO movement is to truly drive agricultural growth, we must go beyond formation alone. Farmers need affordable inputs, reliable advisory support, and assured markets. As India strives to become a developed nation by 2047, empowering them is not optional, it is essential. Strengthening the entire agri-value chain is the way forward.”

He added that globally, the United Nations is urging a shift from production-centric thinking to a food systems approach—integrating everything, from seed to consumption. For India, this also means enabling production planning—helping farmers choose what best suits their land, resources, and markets—to unlock higher and more stable incomes.

Speaking on this occasion, Anil Kumar SG, Founder and CEO of Samunnati said, “Our shared purpose is to build resilience in Indian agriculture by making markets truly work for smallholder farmers—that’s what inspires and drives us. At a time of current global shifts, trade realignments, and climate uncertainties, Indian farmers—through FPOs and MSMEs—stand ready to be solution providers to the world. This decade is about making FPOs enterprise-ready, investable, and globally connected, moving from conversations to commitments and from partnerships to successful, impactful projects.”

The 5th FPO Conclave has come to represent an important annual dialogue between grassroots farmer organisations and national policy and industry leaders. At a time when the government is placing renewed emphasis on strengthening FPOs through financial and institutional support, this edition promises to be particularly impactful.
