A pack of stray dogs saved the day by chasing a group of thieves and blocked them from escaping which helped the police in arresting six people and recovering 40 stolen motorcycles from them.

DCP (West) Vishwajeet Srivastava said the incident took place on Sunday evening when a man had stormed into a police outpost in Chowk, claiming that his motorcycle had been stolen. He pointed to the fleeing thieves and said he could be nabbed if the police acted swiftly.

After a chase of 4-5 km, the thieves abandoned the bike near Kudiya Ghat and fled. The bike was returned to the complainant, Srivastava told Times of India.

As the cops continued their chase, the suspect was again spotted. However, their luck ran dry when a pack of stray dogs got activated upon seeing the speeding car, Times of India reported.

With the dogs tailing them, the thieves tried to enter an alternative lane but found it to be a dead end and police waiting for them.

“They might have escaped again if not for the dogs. This time, the man’s best friend helped the police arrest criminals,” the DCP said.

During interrogation, the thieves confessed to have stolen 40 vehicles, which were recovered on Monday evening.

“The arrested accused were identified as Junaid (24), Aras (21), Vansh Gupta (19), Rahul Gupta (27), Salman (28), and Javed (22), all residents of Sitapur. A 16-year-old boy was also detained and placed under police protection,” the DCP said.
