Actor Darshan, accused in the Renukaswamy murder case, on Tuesday told a city court that the conditions inside the jail had become unbearable for him.

Appearing via video conference before the 64th City Civil and Sessions Court, he described his deteriorating health and appealed in desperation.

“I have not seen sunlight for many days, my hands have developed fungus, and my clothes smell. I can’t live like this anymore. Please, just give me poison. Life here has become unbearable,” Darshan said during the monthly hearing.

The actor added, “Please give poison at least to me. I don’t want to continue like this.”

Responding to his remarks, the judge said, “Such things cannot be done. That is not possible.”

Darshan was arrested in June 2024 in connection with the abduction and murder of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, a fan from Chitradurga.

Police allege Renukaswamy was targeted after sending obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, a close associate of the actor.

He was allegedly abducted, tortured at a shed in Bengaluru, and later found dead in a drain.

Though the Karnataka High Court granted him bail in December 2024, the Supreme Court revoked it on August 14, 2025, citing concerns of witness tampering and directing that no special privileges be extended to him in custody.

He was subsequently re-arrested and remains in judicial custody.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, the court also heard discharge petitions from two other accused (numbers 13 and 14) and scheduled September 19 for the framing of charges.

Darshan’s separate plea opposing his transfer to Ballari prison and seeking a bed and mattress has been adjourned to 3 pm.
