In a remarkable cultural tribute, a group of young men from Rajasthan’s Rabari community undertook a 29-day barefoot pilgrimage from Chenda village in Rajasthan to Dwarka, Gujarat, with a camel by their side. Their goal? To revive pride in traditional attire and raise awareness about the cultural and practical significance of camels.
India’s greatest wealth lies in its culture, yet the younger generation is drifting away from age-old traditions. At the same time, the camel — Rajasthan’s lifeline in desert regions — is declining in numbers.

To highlight both concerns, these youths dressed in traditional attire and walked hundreds of kilometres with their camel “Moti.” Last year, they had completed a similar pilgrimage to Ramdevra.
The journey lasted 28 days, and on the 29th day, they offered prayers at the Jagat Mandir in Dwarka. Speaking about their mission, the group emphasised the many benefits of camel milk, which is even believed to help in curing diseases like tuberculosis.
The Rabari community sees the camel as a symbol of survival in Rajasthan, and the youths urged the government to create strong policies to protect it. They also stressed the need to revive traditional attire, which is being forgotten. Wearing cultural dress on important occasions, they say, is key to preserving the heritage safeguarded by ancestors.
Interestingly, members of this group have also travelled across 17 countries to spread awareness about Indian culture and traditions.
