A Village Development Officer (VDO) from Rajasthan was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for allegedly accepting a bribe in exchange for approving funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.

According to a report by India Today, a complaint filed with the ACB stated that Sonakshi Yadav had initially demanded a bribe of Rs 2,500 from the complainant in exchange for approving funds under the housing scheme.

The complainant paid Rs 1,000, but Yadav insisted on receiving the remaining Rs 1,500, saying that the funds would not be sanctioned until full payment was made. The ACB team caught Yadav red-handed while she was accepting Rs 1,000 from the complainant.

The arrest was made after the ACB Ajmer team laid a trap under the direction of Director General of Police Smita Srivastava, with the supervision of Deputy Inspector General Anil Kayal. The ACB registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and the accused offer is being questioned, officials told India Today.

The ACB stated that the operation represents another major milestone in its ongoing anti-corruption efforts in Ajmer, reinforcing hopes that corrupt officials will be brought to justice and that ordinary citizens will be treated fairly.

In a separate incident, a senior police inspector and a junior official in Mumbai were arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau while allegedly accepting bribe. Senior inspector Chandrakant Sarode (52) and sub-inspector Rahul Waghmode were caught red-handed, the ACB claimed in a release on Friday.

Waghmode allegedly called the complainant and demanded Rs 50,000 for himself and Rs 5 lakh for Sarode for helping him by not arresting his daughter, and also to take action against the opposite party. Waghmode allegedly collected Rs 20,000 on September 10. The bribe amount for Sarode was reduced to Rs 4 lakh after negotiations.
