Vishal warns singers against ‘sifaarish’ culture, blocks mantri

Vishal Dadlani warns singers against ‘sifaarish’ culture, blocks mantri and aspiring singer: ‘That is a guaranteed way to NEVER meet me’

Singer and music composer Vishal Dadlani has issued a strong warning to aspiring singers against relying on influence or political connections to break into the music industry. In a blunt Instagram post shared on Monday, February 9, the musician revealed that he blocked both a politician and a newcomer after being approached through what he described as “sifaarish.”Addressing new singers directly, Vishal made it clear that recommendations from powerful figures would only hurt their chances. “Some advice for newbie singers. Don’t get some mantri-ji or his secretary to call me. That is a guaranteed way to NEVER meet me,” he wrote. He added that such attempts immediately cost an aspirant any opportunity with him. “I have zero respect for people who try to make their way forward through ‘contacts’. To the chap who just tried it, mantri-ji is now blocked, and so are you. Even if you’re a great singer, I have no interest in working with you.”

‘Have faith in your talent’

Expanding on his post, Vishal urged young musicians to believe in their abilities and stay committed to the grind rather than chasing shortcuts. “Please have faith in your talent, be prepared to work hard and be patient. If you are good, your time will come,” he wrote. Warning against favouritism, he added, “Don’t do the ‘sifaarish’ thing. It’s a boring cliché and more than anything, it only shows you to be someone who doesn’t believe their talent is enough.”While Vishal did not name the individuals involved, his post quickly sparked discussion online. Known for speaking his mind, the singer-composer has often used social media to address issues beyond music. Recently, he had also raised concerns over the fading of voting ink after casting his vote in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections.
