Raipur police on Sunday recovered the body of Mohammad Saddam, a young man found dead in Avon Lodge, located in the Ganj police station area. The shocking killing was allegedly carried out by his 16-year-old girlfriend, who confessed to the crime after returning to Bilaspur and narrating the incident to her mother.

What led to the gruesome murder?

According to police as quoted by NDTV, the accused, a minor from Koni police station area in Bilaspur, travelled to Raipur on September 28 to meet Saddam, who was originally from Bihar and working as an MS Engineering officer in Abhanpur. The couple had been staying at the lodge since Saturday. Investigations revealed tensions in their relationship after Saddam allegedly pressured the pregnant teenager to undergo an abortion and had previously threatened her with a knife during a confrontation outside the lodge.

On the night of September 28, the girl allegedly used the same sharp-edged weapon to slit Saddam’s throat while he slept. She then locked the room from outside, took his mobile phone, and fled, later discarding the key near railway tracks. By the following morning, she had returned to Bilaspur and confessed to her mother, who immediately took her to Koni police station. Raipur police subsequently recovered Saddam’s body, which was found soaked in blood.

Investigation underway

Police confirmed that efforts are ongoing to contact Saddam’s family in Bihar. The minor, reportedly three months pregnant, is being interrogated. Authorities noted that repeated disputes over the pregnancy, coupled with threats from Saddam, may have led to this tragic incident. “This appears to be both a crime of passion and desperation. The investigation will determine whether it was premeditated or a spur-of-the-moment act,” said an investigating officer as quoted by NDTV.

The brutal murder has sent shockwaves through Raipur and Bilaspur.
